Irene Serra
Born in Milan,Italy Irene moved to Denmark at the age of 3. From a very young age she developed her love for singing whilst performing in choirs, musicals and churches.Her very first professional engagement was as the lead singer of the Unicef choir in Copenhagen at the age of nine. After moving back to Milan she started studying Jazz at the age of 16 with the renowned Italian Jazz singer Tiziana Ghiglioni at the Academy of Music in Milan. She moved to London in 1999 to complete a BA in Performing Arts at the University of Surrey. She afterwards went on to study music at Goldsmiths College.
Irene holds a Grade 8 voice in Classical Music and is studying towards a Masters in Music at the Guildhall School Of Music and Drama. She has performed various styles of music ranging from jazz, blues, bossanova, gospel and soul in venues in and around London such as The Spice Of Life, The Forge Venue, the Theatre Royal Stratford East, The Dorchester and the Djanogly Pitch at the National Theatre.
One of the semi-finalists in The Brussels International Young Jazz Singer 2008, Irene was also a finalist in this years Shure Jazz Voice Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival 2009. Irene has worked as a session singer and vocalist in Ibiza, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland and the UK and is currently a tutor at the London Music School. She is a full member of the Musicians Union and Equity.
